Come join Howard for another fun group fly in. You can just watch and interact in chat or join in the skies in multiplayer mode. See details below.. we are flying a floatplane to land on lakes. If you prefer planes with wheels, you can find some firm ground nearby to land.
This session is based on a suggestion by a twitch follower who asked us to try this lake just like the YouTube video of a real Icon A5 doing the same. Please see the short video ahead of time and then join in this stream Sunday evening:
Thanks to flox_trot, a participant in last Sunday’s stream. This is the chat-room choice first trip Sunday evening.
An open public event for you to fly-alongside or watch.
When: Sunday, October 18th, 2020 1100zulu, 7pm Eastern Time 2 hours
Where: ForderLearnToFly twitch channel: https://twitch.tv/ForderLearnToFly
Flight plan: https:https://bit.ly/3j9F1Yi but that only gets you to the nearest airport.. keep going in that direction to the lake and ensure you are 3000 feet or above…
Flight Details: At 7:05pm (after we gather) we will be departing KPAE, Paine Field in Washington State.. just north of Seattle/Tacoma airport. We will be flying the Icon A5 floatplane and landing on lakes along the way, much as we did in our Vancouver fly event. We will fly straight east following the Snohomish river to this secluded mountain lake where there is only one way in… and one way out.
Two Landing challenges: We are going to land in Lake Isabel, just like the Youtube video of the real plane. Additionally, Howard likes to challenge fellow flyers to two almost impossible landing spots to take a break, use the washroom, refresh your drinks and take off again. Short field landings are in order as we plunk down in areas that would make your hair stand on end….
Planning: Starting airport is KPAE. Please pick the ramp area at the south end and turn on your fuel switch in the roof of the plane to start your engines.
If you start late, chat the group and we will determine where we are from that airport so you can slew to us (Y key) Please load your aircraft 15 minutes prior to take off and ensure you see others doing runup nearby getting ready. (East USA server) We will announce when we are ready for takeoff, as we will all attempt a parallel northbound takeoff, heading east toward the mountains. Tell all your friends. Anyone can tune in and watch and comment in the chat window. Ask Howard lots of questions. Other pilots on the stream can help too.
There is no ending airport!, This is a “Chat-Room” choice fly in event and this first destination was suggested by “flox_trot” in last week’s session. You can suggest where we go after the two landing challenges. Could be anywhere in the world, even over your own house!
Weather: We will use preset weather so it’s clear skies, for the specific reason of clarity when looking at scenery. We will be stopping and using a drone camera for closeups.
Live players, all traffic and preset weather to clear skies. Try to pick noon for best light on attractions.
Multiplayer Setting: To see and be seen by everyone: (All Players) The fun part!
–Server: East USA (if everyone disappears, change your server, change it back) Xbox Userid top right. It’s about the closest server to the streamer, not closest to the destination. (low latency)
–Multiplayer: All
–Live traffic: As desired
–Weather: Clear skies and daylight (can change in session)
–Communication: chat window and lead airplane C-FLTF (Howard’s Forder Learn To Fly) Howard the pilot, will be the only voice leading us through this flight in an Icon A5 amphib plane.
As with all group flights, it is advisable to turn off both aircraft and terrain collisions. Although you can slew back to the group. Chat to find out where we are and use the Y key to slew back to us. Save your flight often along the way in case you have trouble and want to resume where you left off.
Let’s Fy! As with all informal, public fly-ins, there are no checklists, no strict flying rules and its an informal visual flight (VFR). Everyone is welcome, no matter what your experience level. Although Howard will have new scenery you might not have, you can still land in the same area and just look at Howard’s stream screen.
